Seasonal variations can be seen as well as features such as the nutrient-rich Antarctic currents off Patagonia, and large algal blooms in the Pacific and Gulf of Mexico. This data is important for understanding global productivity, carbon cycling, fisheries habitats, and biochemical oceanography.
