Destruction caused by a lava flow. Footage of a lava flow covering a road. This lava flow is from Pico do Fogo, a stratovolcano on the island of Fogo in the Cape Verde Islands in the Atlantic. The lava flow later destroyed the town of Portela. Pico do Fogo rises to an elevation of 2829 metres. It mostly erupts highly alkaline basaltic lavas. The magma rises from the Cape Verde mantle hotspot off the west coast of Africa. This footage is from the 2014 eruption, obtained in December 2014.
