Gastrotrich hunting. High-speed microscope footage of a gastrotrich hunting for food underwater. Gastrotrichs are microscopic animals common in all aquatic environments, typically living amongst soil or sand particles. They have a pair of glands used in adhesion to these particles, one of which secretes a glue and another a de-adhesive used to break the glue bond. They feed on anything organic that will fit in their mouth, including bacteria, algae and organic detritus. Sample taken from the River Teifi, Wales, UK.
