Gadolinite. Gadolinite is a complex silicate mineral including mutually variable amounts of cerium, lanthanum, neodymium, yttrium, beryllium, and iron. It generally occurs as opaque dark, well-defined, prismatic lustrous crystals with faint red to greenish hues. Gadolinite is a mineral of growing industrial importance because it contains the rare earth metal yttrium.
