Chrysoberyl. Crystal of chrysoberyl (beryllium aluminium oxide). Chrysoberyl occurs in a range of colours including green, yellow, grey, brown and colourless. A variety known as alexandrite is red in artificial light but dark green in natural light and, along with the colourless variety, is highly prized as a gemstone.
