Lead iodide formation. Mixing of white lead nitrate and potassium iodide powders leads to the formation of yellow lead iodide. This is a double replacement reaction. The lead and iodide ions combine to form lead iodide, while the potassium and nitrate ions combine to form potassium nitrate. Potassium iodide is commonly used to test for lead.
