Animation of the location in the night sky and the properties of the orange K-type star Epsilon Eridani (also called Ran), 10.48 light years from Earth in the constellation of Eridanus. Epsilon Eridani is a main sequence star, 0.74 times the width of the Sun (over 1 million kilometres across) and 0.82 times the Sun's mass. Epsilon Eridani is less than a billion years old, and will slowly increase in luminosity over the next 20 billion years. Epsilon Eridani is spectral type K2, with a luminosity class of V. It has a luminosity 0.34 times that of the Sun, and has an atmospheric temperature of 5084 Kelvin. Its spectrum has dominating metal lines, with a weak blue continuum.
