High-speed footage of a flash produced by blowing Lycopodium powder over a candle flame. Lycopodium powder comprises the dry spores of clubmoss plants (Lycopodium sp.). Dispersed in air, the spores are highly flammable because of their high fat content and their large surface area to volume ratio. Lycopodium powder is widely used in pyrotechnic displays and theatrical special effects, as its ignition is impressive yet safe and controllable. Filmed at 2000 frames per second (slowed down 80 times).
