Animation of a flight through and over a layer of graphene, a form of carbon. Graphene consists of a flat sheet of hexagonal units, which can bend and flex as seen here. The layer is only one atom thick, and has unique chemical, physical and electrical properties that make it a subject of much research. It was first created in 2004.
