Planaria, a common flatworm measuring a few millimeters in length, gliding amongst pond debris. It moves by beating cilia located on its ventral surface allowing it to slide over a mucus film. Its two eye spots, or ocellia, are sensitive to light and dark. The organisms can be found in both freshwater and saltwater ponds throughout much of the world. Recorded under Nomarski DIC illumination.
