Cowpea weevil Callosobruchus maculatus infestation of stored cowpeas Vigna unguiculata, sometimes referred to as black_eyed peas. These small beetles range from 3_4 mm in length and are not true beetles, lacking the long snout_like rostrum typical of weevils. Cowpea weevils deposit their eggs in cowpeas and when the larvae exit they leave neat circular holes. These insects are common in the tropics and are also found throughout eastern North America.
