Tilt up a fly agaric mushroom Amanita muscaria growing in a spruce forest. The fly agaric is a common mushroom found in woodland throughout the northern hemisphere. It is famous for its hallucinogenic properties, which have long been exploited by indiginous peoples in its habitat. The psychoactive effects are due to the presence of the chemical muscimol.
