Hurricane Irene was an Atlantic hurricane that followed a path through the Caribbean, the East coast of the United States and Atlantic Canada. It formed on 20th August 2011, strengthened to a Category 3 major hurricane while passing through The Bahamas, and dissipated on 29th August 2011, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
