Hurricane Irene was an Atlantic hurricane that followed a path through the northeastern Caribbean, and up the Eastern Seaboard of the USA and Canada. It formed on 20th August 2011, strengthened to a Category 3 major hurricane while passing through The Bahamas, and dissipated on 29th August 2011, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. No_one was killed in the Bahamas, but it caused an estimated $40 million in damages. In the USA it caused 47 deaths and caused damages estimated at more than $7 billion.
