Locked Down Shot, LS, LA. daylight. The Palace was built between 1335 and 1364, and is the biggest Gothic palace in Europe. The cathedral was built in the 12th century in a pure Provencal Romanesque style, with additions made in the 14th, 15th and 17th centuries. The gilded statue of the Virgin Mary on top of the western tower is from the 19th century. Since 1995, the palais des Papes and the cathedral are classified with the historic center of Avignon, as a World Heritage Site of UNESCO.
