Zoom in to the variable star T Leporis. The zoom, which is to scale, starts with a wide view before zooming into the constellation Lepus, then to an optical image of the star, then to a very high_resolution image produced by the Very Large Telescope磗 optical interferometer. T Leporis is a Mira_type variable star, a huge red giant star in the last stages of its life, whose brightness changes due to pulsations in size. T Leporis has a period of some 380 days. The pulsations eject a huge amount of material, which forms shells around the star, as seen in the final image. T Leporis lies around 500 light years from Earth.
