Flight over and through a graphene sheet. Graphene is a two_dimensional sheet of carbon atoms, and is the thinnest material known. The hexagonal rings are aromatic, like benzene, meaning they have delocalised electrons, which makes graphene an excellent conductor of electricity. Individual graphene sheets stacked on top of each other form the familiar material graphite. Graphene sheets can also be rolled into so_called nanotubes. The 2010 Nobel Prize for Physics was awarded to Andre Geim and Konstantic Novoselov, for their work on graphene sheets.
