Galenite, or galena, is a lead sulphide (PbS), having the cubic crystal system and often takes the form of octahedra. It is the most important ore of lead, occurring most frequently in hydrothermal veins, more rarely in contact metamorphic zones, in the form of dense, dark grey or glossy, well-developed. This well-developed specimen in a quartzitic-sideritic host rock, is from the Peterszeche Mine near Burbach, Nord Rhein-Westphalen, Germany. Overall length of sample is 65 mm.
