Antimonite, also known as stibnite, is a sulphide of antimony (Sb2S3). In nature it often occurs as grey, prismatic acicular (needle-like) crystals in a more or less radial arrangement. The crystalline system is orthorhombic. It is the chief ore of antimony that is used in a wide variety of alloys, especially with lead in battery plates, and in the manufacture of flameproofing compounds, paint, semiconductor devices, and ceramic products. This sample is from Pribram in the Czech Republic, overall width 150 mm.
