The Eurasian Black Vulture or Cinereous Vulture - Aegypius monachus - is one of the worlds' largest flying birds, contending for the title with the Andean condor. They range over a wide variety of habitats from Spain to China and are almost exclusively scavengers of dead animals. With a wing span of 2.5 meters and an average weight of over 8 kilos these are truly impressive raptors. This bird was photographed in Alsace, France at the Mulhouse Zoo.
