Antlion wing. Antlions (Palpares tostus) are insects belonging to the Myrmeleontidae family (sub-family Palparinae). They live all over the world, usually in dry and sandy environments where they feed on ants (hence their name) or other arthropods, while some may also feed on pollen or honey. Adult antlions have a long slender body and two pairs of elongate wings, that are finely veined in a polygonal pattern. They look like butterflies, but belong to an entirely different class among the winged insects. The detail in this picture is of a specimen collected in central Africa. The wing length here seen is about 40 millimetres.
