Capacitors, electronic components and wires assembled on a circuit board. A capacitor stores electrical charge. It has two terminals (electrodes) that connect to two metal plates separated by a dielectric (non-conducting material). Capacitors are used in electronic devices to couple signals between stages of amplifiers, in electric filters and tuned circuits, or to smooth rectified current in a power supply.
