The Weisse Elster is a 257 kilometre long right tributary of the Saale. Its source is in the Czech Republic in the Elster Mountains. It flows through the cities of Plauen, Gera and Leipzig and flows into the Saale in the south of the Silberhoehe district of Halle. The Weisse Elster was chosen by the German Angling Association and the Friends of Nature of Germany as the River Landscape of the Year 2020 2021
