Infographic map depicted the energy use per person around the world. Energy consumption is measured in kilo Watts per hour (kWh) and includes electricity, transport and heat. The highest per capita consumer of energy is Iceland (167,175 Kwh) with over 80% of it coming from renewable resources and geothermal energy. The presence of energy-intensive industries is a major factor influencing total and per-person energy use in countries such as Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Canada and Norway. China consumes the most energy as a country (40 trillion kWh) but due to its population size, ranks 43rd on a per capita basis. Countries with less well developed economies and lower GDP per capita, such as Somalia, Burundi, Niger and Madagascar have a very low energy use per person. Figures based on 2019 and 2020 figures from Our World in Data.
