Iguanodon, illustration. The Iguanodon, named in 1825, was the very first plant-eating dinosaur recognised by science. These herbivorous ornithopod dinosaurs lived about 125 million years ago in the Early Cretaceous, and later gave rise to the hadrosaurids such as edmontosaurus and corythosaurus.
