MODEL RELEASED. Botox treatment. Clinician injecting botox into a female patient's forehead. Botox is a neurotoxin used cosmetically. The toxin, Botulinum Toxin Type A, is obtained from the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. This bacterium causes botulism, a form of bacterial food poisoning. Small, safe amounts of botox are injected into facial muscles, paralysing the muscles and smoothing wrinkles. One treatment can last for between three to six months. See M590/277-281 for a botox treatment sequence.
