The Shakspeare Commemoration at Stratford-On-Avon: scene from "Romeo And Juliet", as performed in the Festival Pavilion, 1864. Celebrating the tercentenary of William Shakespeares birth. The tragedy of "Romeo and Juliet" was represented...we have engraved a sketch of the last scene of the acting version of that play, in which, after the death of Paris, the unhappy pair of lovers, at the entrance of Juliets tomb, meet each other in a way that Shakspeare knew nothing about; for Shakspeares account is that Romeo was dead of the poison before Juliet awoke. Another compliment to English Shakspeare is the appearance of Mdlle. Stella Colas as Juliet: the Romeo is Mr. Nelson. From "Illustrated London News", 1864.
