Design for the Lucknow Memorial, 1864. Stone cross ...to commemorate the sufferings and death of those English men, women, and children, who perished during the siege of the Residency [in Lucknow, India], from the 30th of June, 1857, to its first relief by Outram and Havelock on the 22nd of November in that year...The intended monument is a column forty feet high, ornamented with scroll sculpture, and surmounted by an Ionic cross. The design, originally intended for Cawnpore, is by Mr. Gilbert Scott. Its cost is estimated at about ?1200. It was selected by Mr. Thornhill, Commissioner of Allahabad.
