Scarring and alopecia on the scalp of an African American male patient with dissecting cellulitis who has been treated with the drug adalimumab (marketed under the name Humira). This scalp condition is a chronic suppurative disease characterized by many follicular and perifollicular inflammatory nodules. Those nodules suppurate, can join up, and may result in alopecia (hair loss) and scarring. It may be seen as a variant of cystic acne. The primary lesions are follicular and perifollicular erythematous papules which may progress to abscesses. Adalimumab is a human monoclonal antibody that targets excess tumour necrosis factor (TNF) in the body, overproduction of which causes inflammation, swelling, and pain.
