Steven Weinberg (1933-2021), US physicist and Nobel Laureate giving a talk. He received his education from Cornell and Princeton, and held several important academic positions in the USA. From 1986, he served as a Professor of Physics at the University of Texas. Weinbergs most significant contribution was in the unification of the electromagnetic and weak nuclear forces, which led to the prediction of neutral currents and the W and Z intermediate vector bosons. These predictions were later confirmed through experimental verification, which earned Weinberg a share of the 1979 Nobel Prize for Physics. In addition to this, Weinberg was a strong advocate for the Superconducting Super Collider (SSC) project. Photographed at CERN in December 1979.
