St. Mary tower church, Ipswich, recently restored, 1864. In the north wall is a very fine line of windows, in the Perpendicular style, which is the general style of the restorations...The south wall remains to be transformed into a counterpart of the north wall, and it is intended to remove the south porch, and to do great works to the tower, leaving the south aisle corresponding with the north...The outside of the church is at present a motley mixture of the exquisite fresh work of the restoration and the dim, dilapidated rubble of the old structure. The roof of the nave, however, is finished, or nearly so; and the fabric of the north aisle and that of the west end of the nave are completed, although a great amount of decorative work remains to be executed. Mr. R. M. Phipson was the architect. From "Illustrated London News", 1864.
