Prize dogs at the recent show, Birmingham, 1862. Mr. H. R. Brailsfords Windham, the first prize retriever in "a class generally commended"...; Mr. F. H. Besants Russian spaniel Rose, the first prize taker in the extra class for any known breeds of foreign sporting dogs; she is very curiously ringletted...Mr. J. N. Beasleys Alder, the first-prize deerhound, is very grand in his hair, quality, and size; and his great peculiarity was his immense length of tail...The admirers of Skye terriers had no reason to complain of Mr. W. McDonalds winning Duchess, with her rich brown coat of capital texture; and Mr. R. S. Comberbachs liver-and-white Moll won distinction as head of one of the large pointer classes...She is half-faced, but very beautiful in spite of it...In the black-and-tan terrier class Mr. George Fitter was first and second with Dandy and Tiny...The first and third prize black spaniels, Nelly and Flash, are both the property of Mr. George Jones, and have extremely fine quality, not too much size, grand condition, and great neatness about the head and tegs. Mr. Grimleys Billy is a Russian dog, of extraordinary roughness; and Jock does the Rufford and Grove kennels blood no small credit as head of the fox terriers. From "Illustrated London News", 1862.
