The Cotton Famine: box at Bristol for subscriptions to the distressed operatives fund, 1862. Donations for unemployed Lancashire textiles workers. A box has been placed by the Bristol relief committee on one of the pedestals in front of the Exchange in that city. The four first days of its appearance there ?9 was dropped into it. It is a happy hint, worthy of being followed. Sign reads: Donations for the distressed operatives in the north of England and in Bristol. From "Illustrated London News", 1862.
