Astromaterials processors collecting asteroid particles from the base of the OSIRIS-REx (Origins Spectral Interpretation Resource Identification and Security?“Regolith Explorer) asteroid sample return canister. The OSIRIS-REx mission was launched on September 8 2016, and dropped the capsule on September 24 2023 with samples taken from Bennu, an asteroid around 4.6 billion years old. It is hoped that the sample, which contained water and carbon, may give scientists insight into the Earths origins and the origins of life on Earth.
