Light micrograph of lamellar bone. Lamellar bone is a type of mature bone which has numerous parallel layers (lamella). The bone is arranged around central spaces (white) called Haversian canals that contain blood vessels and supply nutrients to the bone. There are also lacuna (smaller and more numerous white spaces) that house osteocytes, the mature bone cells. Haematoxylin and eosin stained tissue section. Magnification: 100x when printed at 10cm.
