The Coronation of the King and Queen of Prussia: view of K?nigsberg from the tower of the fortified barracks near the Herzogsacker, 1861. This city [now Kaliningrad]...was once the capital of Russia Proper, and long the residence of the Electors of Brandenburg. It still ranks as third city in the Prussian dominions in extent of population, having more than 80,000 inhabitants...Murrays "Handbook for Travellers on the Continent" supplies us with the following particulars respecting this city: "The River Pregel, on which Konigsberg is built, is not sufficiently deep to admit large vessels, which, therefore, unload at Pillau. The trade of Konigsberg consists of corn (for receiving which there are vast ranges of warehouses), hemp, flax, linseed, tallow, bristles, wax, &c.; but it has fallen off since the end of the last century, when it had reached the height of prosperity".
