Liver cancer, illustration. In the right lobe of the liver is a very large tumour representing primary liver cancer or hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). HCCs appear grossly as soft, haemorrhagic yellowish-tan masses as solitary or many smaller tumours. Major causes are infection with hepatitis B or C. Metastases are common and the prognosis is poor.
