An early photograph of an x-ray of a halfpenny coin lodged in the gullet of a nine-year old child where it lay for several months.It had been only about ten years since Wilhelm Roentgen, professor of physics in Wurtzburg, made his famous discovery in 1895 of what he named Roentgen or x-rays. X-rays quickly entered their use in medicine, the first uses of medical imaging.
