Shakespeare's First Folio. Title page of 'Mr. William Shakespeares Comedies, Histories, and Tragedies'. Published in 1623, this was the first collection of William Shakespeare's (1564-1616) plays. The 36 plays were compiled by the actors, and friends of Shakespeare, John Heminges and Henry Condell. It was the first time that half of the plays had been published.
