Trajan's Column, a monument that was erected in 106-113 ce by the Roman emperor Trajan and survives intact in the ruins of Trajan's Forum in Rome. The marble helical column is of the Roman Doric order, and it measures 125 feet (38 metres) high together with the pedestal, or base, which contains a chamber that served as Trajan's tomb. column designed to be 'read' by walking around a ramped structure which no longer exists. The scene shows a parade of Roman standards gathered to salute the Emperor Trajan following his victory over the Dacians. Also visible to the right are 2 cornua. The Cornu or cornum was an ancient Roman brass instrument about 3 m (9.8 ft) long in the shape of a letter 'G'.
