Trajan's Column, a replica on display at London's V&A Museum, this monument was erected in 106-113 ce by the Roman emperor Trajan following victories in the Dacian wars 101-102 and 105-106 CE. The column survives intact in the ruins of Trajan's Forum in Rome. The marble helical column is of the Roman Doric order, and it measures 125 feet (38 metres) high together with the pedestal, or base, which contains a chamber that served as Trajan's tomb. The column frieze was designed to be 'read' by walking around a ramped structure which no longer exists.
