Breast of a female patient with tuberculosis (TB) of the breast. TB is caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It primarily infects the lungs, but can spread to other body parts via the blood and lymph. The bacteria create tubercles, which are nodular lesions of dead tissue and bacteria. TB of the breast is rare, but most often found in lactating women.
