Close-up of a prolapsed uterus (womb) protruding from a patient's vagina. This is where part or all of the uterus protrudes out beyond the vaginal opening. It is caused by weakness in the pelvic muscles that should support the uterus. There is also a pressure sore on the uterus caused by continuous pressure and friction. Surgery may be needed to repair the pelvic muscles or remove the uterus (hysterectomy).
