African savanna elephant (Loxodonta africana). This elephant is the largest land mammal in the world, with adult males standing up to 3 metres high and weighing up to 6,000 kilograms on average. It can live up to 70 years in the wild. Since 2021, it has been listed as endangered on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) list of threatened species. It is under threat by habitat destruction and also by poaching for meat and ivory. Photographed at the Moremi Game Reserve in Botswana.
