Illustration of the French artillery officer Alfred Dreyfus (1859-1935) in court, Rennes, France, for his second trial in 1899 after his conviction in 1984. The 'Dreyfus Affair' was a political scandal that became one of the most tense political dramas in modern French history. It remains one of the most striking examples of a complex miscarriage of justice, where a major role was played by the press and public opinion. Illustration by L. Sabattier from 1900.
