Common alder (Alnus glutinosa) foliage. The Alder tree is native to Europe, southwest Asia and northern Africa. It grows to a maximum height of 25 metres with a life expectancy around 60 years. It grows especially in areas with damp soil, including wet woodlands marshes and on the banks of rivers and streams. The rounded alder leaves have serrated edges and distinct veins. They can be used as an anti-inflammatory remedy. Photographed in April, in Dorset, UK.
