The Battle of the Partitions: Catholic Relief Act; 1829. Supported; right; by Wellington; Peel; Brougham and Burdett and opposed by Cumberland and Eldon and the followers of their No Popery slogan. The carrying of the Act through the British Parliament in 1829 was a victory for Daniel O'Connell's campaigning 1823-1829.
