The greater part of the translantic telephone cable, valued at about ?5 million, was manufactured in Britain by Submarine Cables Ltd., at their new factory at Erith, Kent. The manufacturer of the cable require the use of 2,700 tons of copper, 1,400 tons of polythene, 11,000 tons of steel Wire, 1,800 tons of jute yarn and 2,400,000 yards of cotton cloth.
