Lhasa, Capital Of Tibet: Potala - A general view of the imposing residence of the Dalai Lama, in Lhasa, the capital of Tibet. With its vast inward-sloping walls broken only in the upper parts by straight rows of many windows, and its flat roofs of many levels, it has the appearance of a fortress dominating the city. The central part of the group of buildings is called The Red Palace from its crime on color which distinguishes it from the rest; it stands far higher than the rest and contains the principal halls and shrines of the Dalai Lama. March 5, 1953. (Photo by Camera Press).
