British physicist Nicola Fox (left, born 1968) monitoring the launch of NASA's Ionospheric Connection Explorer (ICON) satellite as the head of the Heliophysics division in NASA's Science Mission Directorate. Fox was appointed the Associate Administrator of the Directorate in February 2023. ICON launched successfully from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (CCAFS) on 10th October 2019, over the Atlantic Ocean about 80 km from Daytona Beach, Florida. It studied the frontier of space, the dynamic zone high in Earth's atmosphere where terrestrial weather from below meets space weather above.
